About CupUnit
CupUnit is a free cups-to-grams converter for cooks and bakers, built around one idea: a conversion is only useful if you can see the assumptions behind it.
What this site does
Recipes written in cups meet kitchens that weigh — and the “right” gram figure depends on the ingredient, the cup standard and how the cup was filled. CupUnit converts single amounts or whole recipes across US, US customary, metric and imperial cups, always stating the measuring method and the source of every weight. Everything runs in your browser: no account, no server, no waiting.
How the numbers are chosen
Every ingredient weight is reconciled from named primary sources — USDA FoodData Central, the King Arthur Baking ingredient weight chart and NIST unit definitions — and where sources disagree we publish our choice and the alternatives side by side. The full rules are on the methodology page, and the complete dataset is public, versioned JSON.
Who is behind it
CupUnit is an independent project, not affiliated with any ingredient brand or measuring-cup maker. It is supported by advertising and free to use; ads never influence the published values.
